Lately, I have been reading motivational books. You know, those lifestyle books that teach you how to live a life without stress and regain your spiritual center. I decided to start reading these books because I want to grow spiritually and mentally and reduce stress and frustration. These books do an excellent job of advising on how to have less stress and live a life focused on God; however, their advice does not seem practical.
I understand that their advice is just that—advice. Despite this unfortunate truth, I was still looking for substance; I wanted the advice to be a “how-to manual”. Sometimes, when I am in a situation, the last thing I think about is someone else’s advice. Usually, I react the way I see fit and feel inadequate after that reaction. I know this is the wrong attitude to have. I need someone to tell me how to live a stress-free life without drama. I need someone, or a manual, to help me amid the storm. I know that I sometimes overreact to stress and people. However, I do not know how to change this. This is why I need an inspirational person to be with me throughout the day, encouraging me to do my best.
I realize that this is not going to happen. This means that I need to go to plan B. My plan B is to be my own voice of reason. It means doing what my mama taught me: thinking before speaking and acting accordingly. It also means, thinking before acting and then acting. These skills may seem easy, but they are not. It will take me some time to learn how to stay peaceful amid a storm and not overreact. I have tried doing this before, and it never worked. However, it will be different this time. I will put to work the information I have learned from reading the books; I will remember those words and become my voice of reason. Creating an everlasting manual for life.
Until next time:
Let God’s light shine within you and through you
