This is a continuation of a blog post from a few weeks ago, “Diving into the Abyss.”
Ok. You dived head-first into the abyss. What Next?
This is the question I had after diving headfirst. The experience was better than I could have ever imagined. I got what I was seeking. However, during this process, I had one crucial question, “what next?” What happens after you have gone into uncharted territory?
In my last post, I discussed the importance of protecting your heart and bracing yourself for hurt feelings. However, I did not talk about the opposite. What if the experience comes out better than you expected? “What next?”
It is essential to understand that uncharted territory is uncharted for a reason. No one knows what lies ahead. It could be a land full of silver and gold or a land of destruction and sulfuric acid. I think it is essential to continue to explore and test the waters. However, do not have any unrealistic expectations.
In friendships and relationships, it is essential to get to know people. I speak from experience. I cannot tell you how many people I initially wrote off because of preconceived notions. I was terrified to test the waters because I knew I had them figured out. Sometimes, I did dive into the abyss and tried to make a new friend. Sometimes, that was a bad idea; I learned they were just as I thought. However, in most cases, they were terrific people. I made some lifelong friends this way. I kept learning and got to know them. I saw their beautiful true colors. Whether it worked out in the end does not matter. I pushed myself out of my comfort zone. I did something undiscovered, and it made me better.
So what’s next?
What next is to continue to grow and thrive. Continue to explore. However, you must continue to be cautious and not establish unrealistic expectations. If it feels good; and will not stunt your spiritual growth. Go for it. Do not overthink it. Do not make excuses. Live in and enjoy the moment. If it does not work out. It is OK. You will be ok. You will recover. You will be prepared for the next adventure. You can say not only did I try it, but I explored it, and the discovery made me better.
Until Next Time:
